When Melissa and Ryan invited us out to the farm for their engagement session I was thrilled! With plans to host their wedding there next year, it gave us a chance to better understand their vision for the day. Plus, it was the perfect location for the busy farmer. I am so glad they chose a place that made them feel quite literally at home.

If you’ve been here for a while, you likely already know that we always encourage our couples to make decisions about their sessions and wedding day that feel unique to them. Most times this means including your sweet pup, or a special family tradition. For Ryan and Melissa, this meant a trip out to their field in the midst of a harvest to take some of the coolest farm engagement photos ever.

Photos with the combine was a last minute request after Ryan mentioned it in the morning. Melissa knew it would be special to him so she asked us if it would be possible. We couldn’t have answered “yes” any faster. David loves farming, and I love when grooms play an active role in planning their engagement session. It was a win win, a real no brainer.

Knowing that we needed the sun to be nice and low, we saved those photos for last. As we made our way out to the field, we realized we were losing daylight fast. We sped through the field at dusk, kicking up dust clouds along the way. (There is a video of this linked at the end). It was noisy and hard to see, but our adrenaline and excitement had us so hyped up. I could even tell that Ryan was getting excited. The combine switched the lights on and I gave the two a few quick instructions on what to do as soon as the equipment was in the frame.

The results were so much cooler than I ever could have imagined! Thank you Ryan and Melissa for not only choosing us as your wedding photographers, but also inviting us out to your farm for these engagement photos! It’s always more fun when we get to see an extra piece of what makes the two of you, YOU! We can’t wait to be back next year for the wedding and maybe even that annual bags tournament too.
