When I first met Kevin and Melinda, they described their ideal wedding as very laid back, relaxed and simple. They wanted to be surrounded by loved ones with minimal fuss over details and small things. The only thing that truly mattered to them, was marrying one another. They had chosen the Lussier Family Heritage Center and were looking forward to the natural beauty, intimate size and overall vibe.
Kevin and Melinda wanted the focus of their day to be on connecting with family, friends, and of course one another. They chose to follow their hearts over tradition, and in doing so they hosted a wedding that felt uniquely right to them. Neither of them wished to have a formal wedding party, which freed up extra time for a truly special morning The two met under the famous oak tree, where they shared a first look and helped one another put the finishing touches on their wedding wardrobes. It was so sweet to watch Kevin gently adjust Melinda’s flower crown, and to see the two of them share in such joy and excitement over this special moment.
The Ceremony
The two wilderness enthusiasts had planned for an outdoor ceremony near the Heritage Center’s prairie. Mother Nature had other plans. With the forecast showing heavy winds, thunderstorms and hail, they had to rethink. Kevin and Melinda’s families quickly stepped up to lend a hand and move the entire ceremony indoors. While it was not what the two had envisioned, none of it seemed to matter by the time their moment arrived. As they stood at the head of their ceremony space, exchanging personally written vows, all that mattered was that they were together.
The Reception
The rest of the evening followed the same relaxed, present vibe. Between family formals and lots of gorgeous portraits, Kevin and Melinda were able to connect with guests and enjoy their evening as husband and wife. Friends and family shared a meal together, with the newlyweds seated together with their parents. They later surprised everyone with a fun Fox Trot that they had been practicing throughout their engagement! It was a fun change of pace that we hadn’t expected, but I loved every minute of it!
When I think back to my favorite parts of their day the first things that come to mind are:
- Kevin and Melinda choosing to prioritize the moments that mattered most to them.
- The beautiful and colorful florals from one of our favorite local florists, Sunborn Gardens
- The calmness of their day
We say that we are photographers for the couples that are best friends first. Kevin and Melinda, you are just that! We are truly so happy that you’ve found your perfect balance (the one who loves to eat breakfast and the one who loves to cook it!). We wish you many years of potlucks with friends, hikes in the wilderness, and brunch in each other’s company. Cheers to you!
