I’m not sure what I did to get so lucky, but 2022 has already blessed me with beautiful snowy landscapes and glowing new mommas! I started out the New Year photographing our sweet friends, Kristin and Drew who are joyfully awaiting the arrival of their new baby boy any day now. Maternity sessions can be tricky in winter, especially when mom is 37+ weeks pregnant, so when planning their maternity photos I had a few “must haves” for my ideal location. I was on the search for something easily accessible with a few great locations all within walking distance, something with a public building we could warm up in if needed, and of course- somewhere with a bathroom! I also wanted something soft and whimsical to celebrate the new life about to make his way into the world.
I remembered a beautiful botanical garden that I had photographed at years prior, and much to my delight they we’re willing to host us! We made our way to Olbrich Botanical Gardens and we were delighted at what we found. I talk A LOT about good light, and while most of you humor me and knod/smile, I know that not everyone understands the importance of it. Beautiful backgrounds are great, but beautiful light is essential!
Kristin and Drew also work as wedding videographers, so they fully understood and appreciated the gorgeous light and landscape at Olbrich Gardens. We had so much fun shuffling around together, collectively geeking out at the way the sun filtered through the pine trees just right, and bonded over a shared love for a little glow and soft haze. As we stopped to bundle back up and get warm after each shot, I showed Kristin and Drew their images in my camera and we all squealed in excitement at the magic we were creating. While I loved that feeling, nothing could beat listening to them talk about their excitement for their new journey to parenthood. It truly is a beautiful and magical experience, unlike any other and I am just so personally honored that they asked me to play a role in preserving that feeling for a life time.
