Mike and McKenzie’s spring wedding at Camp Forest and Cobblestone Creek near Brillion WI
This past weekend I traded my camera for a bouquet, and stood next to my best friend of over 20 years as she married the love of her life on a day that went just about as perfectly as she had planned.
Mike and McKenzie wanted their wedding experience to be about friends and family, with plenty of time to enjoy the day together. To make things more special, they opted for their first look and cocktail hour to take place at Mac’s childhood home. Bright and early we all filled into the kitchen sipping coffee and wearing matching silk pj’s while taking turns getting dolled up. Mckenzie had thoughtfully laid out little gifts for each of her bridesmaids, and everyone enjoyed the relaxed morning together. Before the day had really even begun we were all in tears as we watched McKenzie and her dad interact for the first time.
Soon after, Michael and McKenzie met down by the evergreens to share a first look and private vows. It was a beautiful and intimate moment, that eased both of their nerves and allowed them to be present together for the remainder of the day. The rest of the wedding party joined in for portraits as the excitement started to kick in!
Camp Forest Ceremony
Their ceremony took place at Camp Forest in the white oak chapel. The side doors opened to let in the breeze and sunlight, which gave the space an outdoor feel. Guests laughed at the personal touches written into the service, and we all watched happily as they shared a tree planting unity ceremony and sealed the deal with an enthusiastic kiss!
Eager to begin celebrating, we hopped on the party bus and headed for a local dive bar complete with plenty of shenanigans along the way. Meanwhile, guests were hosted by McKenzie’s parents, Tim and Stacy for cocktails back at home! Fun fact, the paper wedding bells that decorated the snack wall were saved from Tim and Stacy’s wedding! Shortly after grabbing a famous “Hellen Hauler” drink, the party headed back to cocktail hour where Mike and McKenzie had time to socialize and thank their guests.
Cobblestone Creek Reception
Like most weddings, the night flew by from there! We made our way to Cobblestone Creek for the reception where we we’re all ready to hit the dance floor! These two are well loved by many, so the evening included a total of five different toasts of well wishes, funny stories, and advice for the newlyweds. Many more tears were shed and laughs we’re shared before the DJ opened up the floor to first dances and the anniversary dance. McKenzie’s grandparents were the longest standing couple on the dance floor with 63 years of marriage! Hopefully someday Mike and McKenzie will be the ones winning that dance. Just as the sun was setting and guests were letting loose, the newlyweds snuck out for one last bit of photos, and some time to soak it all in.
It was a beautiful day in every way, and I am grateful to have shared it with you both. Cheers to you as you start on your next great adventure!
