Winter Wedding at Lac La Belle | Oconomowoc, WI
Lauren and Drew’s winter wedding at Lac La Belle was our third Dixon Family wedding, an honor we feel so privileged to have! Drew is the brother to two of our past couples (Tanner and Aislynn) and (Molly and Josh). We playfully tease that once someone joins our photography family there is no getting rid of us. This family in particular is the reason we began saying that in the first place! The Dixon family members are some of the most welcoming, entertaining, and genuine people we’ve ever known. Being invited back year after year to capture their growing families is such a joy.
It’s no surprise that they attract equally as wonderful partners into their group. Lauren is best described as a ball of sunshine! She is joyful, heartfelt and deeply aware of those around her. After meeting her family this past weekend it all added up. They are a tight knit, fiercely loving crew, who complete the final piece of the Dixon inner circle.
On the morning of their wedding they were gifted with unseasonably warm and beautiful weather that held on throughout the afternoon and produced the most breathtaking evening sunset. A perk none of us had anticipated the last weekend of December, but one that made them even more grateful and excited for this day. The two waited until their ceremony to see one another, which gave them each individual time to spend with their wedding parties.
As Lauren’s mom and sister helped with a few last minute touches, they shared with me their sweet family tradition called a ‘tuck for luck”. The three sat together as mom carefully pinned a little lace satchel holding a 2024 penny inside Lauren’s gown. After her shoes were buckled and a game time earring decision was made, the tears began. Lauren invited both her father and brother to experience a first look with her. This also created the perfect opportunity for the original Mende crew to share a few quiet moments together.
For their winter wedding at Lac La Belle they chose to hold their ceremony inside the 1896 room where the sunlight poured in. Drew cracked a huge smile when their playful pup Dixie trotted down the aisle, but it was Lauren’s entrance that he was really waiting for. His reaction was everything she had hoped for, and her excitement to say “I do” was palpable!
After catching the sunset for photos, and soaking up their first hour as husband and wife, the Dixon’s lined up to make their grand entrance in the Carriage House. Knowing there was a full roster of heartfelt speeches ahead, they opted to roll right into their first dance, Sun to Me by Zach Bryan.
When I asked them how they felt about their day, both were filled with gratitude for each moment. Their goal had always been to “share our joy with the people who love us” and after listening to their loved ones speak about them, witnessing the tears, laughs, hugs and even the dance moves- I can say with absolute certainty that they did just that.
