If you’ve ever watched a sappy hallmark movie during the holidays then you’ve likely witnessed at least one romantic “snow globe” scene before. You know what I’m talking about, right? The light is perfect, the insanely gorgeous couple is falling in love, and there’s a subtle and ever so picturesque snowfall. It looks like something that could only be found in a movie. For a long time I believed that to be true. Until the other night at least, when I met Val and Kyle out at Burke Park…
Val and Kyle’s Winter Couple’s Photoshoot at Burke Park
We had just gotten a fresh layer of snow here in Madison, and I was itching to get out and be creative again. I sent out a quick message to see if anyone would be up for a winter couples photoshoot. As soon as Val and Kyle answered I knew I had struck gold.
For those of you who haven’t met the Rusts before, let me give you a quick summary. They met early on, in high school, and stuck together all throughout college. They tackled long distance, nursing school, opposite work schedules, and plenty of life’s ups and downs. Their relationship has always been one full of trust, quality time, and loads of goofiness. Both Val and Kyle are kind hearted and genuinely FUN people. They are the type of couple that can host a swanky cocktail party with the perfect shrimp platter, while also being the ones voted most likely to sing karaoke, ride the mechanical bull, and end their night giggling in a booth at McDonalds, elbow deep in Filet O’ fish. They love their families and friends fiercely, but most of all, they love doing life together.
My goal for their winter couples photoshoot was to highlight all the fun and playfulness that already exists in their marriage. I wanted to show the rest of the world, the Val and Kyle that I’ve looked up to since college. You always hear how important it is to continue to date your spouse and I think these two excel at that. They are so good at loving each other exactly as they are, and finding new ways to celebrate one another. After over a decade together, they still make time to take trips, to sit down with wine in hand and unwind, and to show up for eachother in every way. What makes their photos so beautiful isn’t necessarily the “hallmark snowglobe” effect (pssssht..this was actually created by our dear friend Meg who volunteered to throw snow at them for 30 minutes straight) but rather- the genuine love and connection they have with one another. You can feel it in their gallery.
Thank you Rusts for taking a night away from your sweet babe to laugh and play in the snow for me. You blew me away, and as always, made my heart so very happy!
