A spring wedding at The Edgewater Hotel in Madison, WI
On Friday, May 20th Anne and Matt gathered at the Edgewater in downtown Madison. Surrounded by their best dressed friends and family, they celebrated the start of their new chapter together. As I reflect on their wedding day together, the things that stand out most to me are… Anne’s infectious laugh, Matt’s calm demeanor, and their entire guest list’s sense of fashion! With their colorful pallet, and beautiful florals by Daffodil Parker, this wedding gave all the spring vibes.
Anne and Matt booked us for their spring wedding well in advance, but since they live in New York we didn’t actually get to meet in person until this past week. We had spent a bit of time getting to know one another over video chat, and last Thursday we finally got to hug it out in person! We joined the soon to be newlyweds for their rehearsal dinner and watched in awe at how easily the room lit up in their presence.
The two have a natural passion for hosting. They enjoy both enjoy fine dining, dancing and the company of others. When I asked them what they were most looking forward to during their time in Wisconsin, they told me they couldn’t wait to break bread and reunite with friends and family that they had been apart form for so long.
the morning of
Friday morning we arrived to the beautiful Edgewater Hotel just off of the Capitol Square in downtown Madison. Matt and his groomsmen were already dressed, and Anne was just finishing up. It was drizzling out, but the afternoon looked promising. Everyone was calm and relaxed and we had a good amount of down time to capture detail shots and chit chat about the evening before.
When both Anne and Matt were ready, we took them out the the terrace of the Edgewater to position them for their first look. Matt had already known what Anne would be wearing, but we saw his excitement and curiosity build. When they locked eyes, they truly relished in one another’s presence. In witnessing this, I quickly realized that this day was going to be filled with elegance and class, but more importantly- mindfulness. Their ability to be present in each moment both with one another, and with their guests is something we wish for all of our couples to experience.
the afternoon
Since the two had opted for a first look, they were also able to capture all of their portraits, and formals before the ceremony. After, they had an abundance of time to be present with loved ones, which is something they prioritized from the beginning. We spent that time laughing, taking goofy photos, coming up with nicknames for the groomsmen and grabbing the perfect Bumble pic for a few of the bridesmaids.
As the afternoon progressed, the ceremony began. With a beautiful lake view behind them, Anne and Matt exchanged their vows. Again we saw their connection shine as they could barely resist the urge to kiss early. At one point Anne even leaned in for one and was reminded that it was not time. Her sincere passion left guests in a wave of laughter.
the evening
Post ceremony, the newlyweds took some time to decompress. They snuck off to grab a bite and enjoy the moment together. Their guests were kept happy with tasty hors d’oeuvres, champagne and an open bar. At the start of dinner, we listened to beach of their brothers’ speak about the relationships they had with their siblings and with each other. I loved hearing about Anne’s kind heart and infectious laugh, Matt’s big personality and ability to make friends wherever he goes. Above all, I loved hearing how well their loved ones felt they balanced each other.
Throughout the evening the two made a point to check in with their guests and catch up with so many people they hadn’t seen. If I couldn’t find them at a guest table there was only one other place they’d be…the dance floor. With a live band at the center stage, Ring of Music kept the
Edgewater’s ballroom full of life! My cheeks literally hurt by the end of the evening from smiling in awe at all of the impeccable dance moves we saw!
Anne and Matt, it was an honor to be a part of your spring wedding at the Edgewater Hotel! We loved getting to experience your genuine personalities and ability to connect with those around you.
