If you are on the fence about a first look, or if you’re looking for ways to optimize your wedding day timeline, you are in the right place. When working with our couples to build a timeline, one of the first things we talk about is whether or not they’d like to share a first look. There is no right or wrong answer to this, because it’s YOUR wedding day and you have the freedom to choose what feels right to you. We will never tell a couple that they “have to” have a first look, but when asked our honest opinion, here’s what we DO say:
Yes! We LOVE first looks and absolutely recommend them for so many reasons, but the number one is that they give you so much more flexibility in your timeline. Couples who opt for a first look are able to complete most (if not all) of their wedding party portraits prior to the ceremony which means that after they say “I do”, their wedding party is free to enjoy cocktail hour, and our couples have some time to decompress together and then mingle with guests as well.
Since opting for a first look allow you to get the majority of your photos completed before your guests even arrive, it simultaneously also allows you more time together with your spouse, more time to socialize with friends and family, and more freedom to enjoy your full day. We may be a tad biased, but we’ve seen first hand how much more our couples were able to relax after sharing a first look. We’ve also seen how a first look gives more overall portrait time to create those beautiful images that end up in your heirloom album.
